In the men's tournament, Great Britain overturned a 2-1 pool stage loss to West Germany to take a famous gold medal in the final rematch 3-1, with the Netherlands taking the bronze 2-1 against Australia.
 
In the women's tournament, hosts South Korea went all the way to the final before being denied a historic triumph by Australia who won the gold 2-0. That came after a 5-5 draw between the sides in the pool stage. The Netherlands also took bronze here beating Great Britain 3-1.
