Please note that some ratings have been estimated, and only players who scored at least one try are included on the team cards due to lack of information. This set also uses an era-specific double range for drop goals, and two sets of control charts - one for home-and-away matches, and one for matches played at a neutral venue.

With England and Scotland entering clubs to the second European Cup, the competition expanded to twenty teams and was again won by a French club. They put three teams into the quarter-finals and although defending champions Toulouse lost in the semi-finals to Leicester, Brive, who had beaten last year's beaten finalists Cardiff in their semi, eased past the English club in the Cardiff final with a 28-9 victory.
