This set contains all 12 men's and 10 women's teams who competed in the tournament, with full and basic team cards, optional attacking and defending modifiers, and quick score module ratings.

In the men's tournament, Croatia won their second gold as an independent nation (two more as part of Yugoslavia), winning all eight matches, albeit only by a combined 27 goals, including two two-goal wins against Hungary in the semi-final, and then 26-24 over Germany in the gold medal match. It was Germany's first final since reunification.

France had also gone unbeaten in the group stage, but lost to Russia in the quarters, with the Russians going on to lose to Germany before beating Hungary 28-26 to win bronze. That meant Hungary had finished fourth for the fourth time without medalling.

In the women's tournament, Ukraine won their first five matches before crashing to Denmark 29-20 in the semi-finals, and they would be joined by South Korea in the final, after the Koreans' single goal win over France. The teams could not be split in the final - 14-14 at half-time, 25-25 at full-time, and then after two extra time periods 34-34. It would take penalty throws to decide gold for the first time, and the defending champions made it three in a row, winning 4-2, as like in 1996's final, they denied Korea a third gold.

Ukraine would bounce back from their heavy defeat to the Danes with a low-scoring 21-18 over France in the bronze medal match, as they won their first medal as an independent nation, and denied the French their first.
