This set contains all 12 men's and 12 women's teams that competed at the Games held in Beijing in 2008, with each team receiving team cards and team lists for ratings, as well as player scoring cards (maximum of 13 players included).
 
In the men's event, the United States won their first gold in 20 years when they defeated defending champions Brazil 3-1 in the gold medal match. The USA had come from 2-1 behind to beat Serbia in the quarters, then held off Russia in the semis after losing a 2-0 lead, as they completed an 8-0 tournament in winning the gold. Russia again claimed bronze like in 2004, with a 3-0 victory over Italy, who slipped out of the medals after claiming silver four years earlier.
 
In the women's event, Brazil made no mistake in winning gold, losing only one set in eight matches - the second set in the gold medal match with against the United States, before winning it 3-1, and their first-ever gold medal. It was guaranteed to have a new champion, as the USA matched their best-ever finish from their home Games in Los Angeles in 1984 despite losing the final.
 
Cuba had won all six matches before losing to the USA in the semi-final, and then were beaten to the bronze medal by defending champions China, 3-1, leaving the Caribbean island nation outside the medals for the first time since 1988.
