All 16 teams rated from the second men's World Championship for newer handball-playing nations, held in Bulgaria, with basic team cards and quick score module ratings included.
Prior to the expansion of the European Handball Championship for men to 24 teams, more nations took part in this tournament, so all bar one come from the continent with China the odd one out. The Faroe Islands took home their second straight title as they edged a 26-25 win over Turkey. Kosovo beat Cyprus 32-25 for the bronze medal. As well as the six nations already mentioned, also included in this tournament were Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Great Britain, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta and Moldova.
