In the men's tournament, Argentina won their second gold beating first-time finalists Chile 31-27. Brazil, having surprisingly lost to Chile in the semi-finals took bronze with a 32-20 victory over Mexico. In the women's tournament, Brazil won a sixth straight gold medal, again beating Argentina in the final for a third straight time. Cuba edged out the United States by a single goal for bronze.
