Although a full World Tour season was completed for the first time in 3 years, the pandemic continued to intervene with New Zealand amongst others missing from the first half of the season, as well as Fiji from the Spanish rounds.

Because of that, a new champion arrived in the men's series, with Australia only winning once, in London, but overhauling defending champions South Africa, after a disastrous final tournament in Los Angeles that saw them dumped out of the group stage, despite winning the first four series stops. Fiji and Argentina were right behind them, with just eight series points separating all four countries. It was Australia's first ever World Tour title.

With the two-time defending champions only appearing twice, New Zealand handed over the women's crown to the only other country to win the series, Australia, as they won four times and wrapped up the title with one event to spare. Following them, after dropped scores France, Fiji and Ireland all finished level on points and were separated by overall points differential.
