This set contains all 12 men's and 12 women's teams that played in the main round at the inaugural Pan-American Cup held in Miami.
 
The United States won both competitions, going 5-0 in the men's tournament, defeating Brazil 21-15 in the gold medal match, and similarly 5-0 in the women's tournament, also beating the Brazilians, however much more comfortably 21-9.
 
Puerto Rico lost both bronze medal matches – the men's to Dominican Republic in the tightest of matches, 21-20, and in the women's to Canada, 18-12.
