Australia became men's champions for the fourth time in five events, regaining the title from Mongolia, and beating the defending champions in the semi-final as they did so. They would defeat surprise first-time finalists Iran, 21-7 in the final, after the Iranians beat both Japan and then New Zealand to get to their first final. Mongolia took bronze, 21-18 over the Kiwis.
 
Australia also continued their dominance in the women's, with back-to-back titles and a third in four, only allowing 43 points in five matches as they coasted to the title. Their closest win came in the final, against their rivals New Zealand, 18-13, as they lost to their cross-Tasman foes for a second straight year in the big game. Mongolia claimed another bronze, with a 17-10 win over Chinese Taipei in the third place game.
