In what was a relatively straight-forward tournament, the two closest matches in the group stage decided the World Championship qualifiers, with Kazakhstan's opening 28-26 win over China, and Iran's 32-30 win over hosts India, seeing them finish above their defeated opponents to take their place at the 2025 tournament.

Japan and South Korea eased through as expected, winning all their matches, including semi-finals against Kazakhstan and Iran respectively, with the closest game between them, the seven goal margin for Japan over the Kazakhs.

The final though did go to the wire, with the Koreans leading 12-9 at half-time before three separate three goal runs, saw the Japanese win back the title for only the second time, and first since 2004, 25-24. It ended the Koreans six straight titles, where they had won five finals in a row before being beaten by their near rivals finally.

Kazakhstan claimed a second bronze in three tournaments after beating Iran 28-22, who had to settle for fourth for a third straight championship.
