Northampton returned to the top of the English game with a 26-17 win over Exeter in the final. They had already finished top in the regular season, but after defeating their big rivals Leicester comfortably in the semi-final, would not face the defending champions Bath, after they lost by a point to the other eventual finalists. It was Northampton's third title, and second in three seasons.
