Despite a scandal over transfer deals - which saw them deducted two points - they claimed a fourth title in a row, and sixth in seven completed seasons, holding off the only other team to win the title in that run - Montpellier - 28-20 in the final. They had already demolished Paris R in the neutral semi-final by 71-17 and after the title was retained, their already large lead in overall championships grew to 11, with their 25th.
 
Montauban's surprise promotion run started promisingly, but regular heavy losses meant they only won once and drew once in their 26 matches, and were instantly returned to the second division. Perpignan again returned down the table to face the play-off match, but survived by winning at Provence 47-24. Vannes meanwhile will yo-yo back to the top flight next season, after again winning the second division title.
