After only finishing fourth in the regular season, Brisbane completed a miracle run of comebacks - firstly to defeat minor premiers Canberra in the qualifying final, then to finally end Penrith's four-year run in the preliminary final, before defeating Melbourne in the Grand Final, 26-22, to win their seventh title, and first since 2006.
 
Canberra had been minor premiers for only the second time, but faced the ignominy of a collapse to Brisbane, and then bounced in straight losses by Cronulla-Sutherland.
