The first season of the first-ever rugby sevens franchise league for the world's top players saw Chennai take the title, following a second place finish in the double round-robin league stage, then defeating Bengaluru and the surprise finalists Delhi 41-0 in the final. Delhi had only won three matches to finish fourth, but shocked a Hyderabad team which only lost one of ten matches in the league stage in the semi-final, before running up against one opponent too many.
