Italy made it a double world title with the women having won theirs, defeating Bulgaria 3-1 for their second straight and fifth overall crown. They had been defeated though - against Belgium 3-2 in the pool match, but they won the rematch in the quarter-final 3-0 before also dispatching Poland 3-0 in a rematch of the 2022 final, before defeating the Bulgarians in their first final since their only other silver in 1970.

Poland would deny the Czech Republic their best-ever finish with a 3-1 win in the bronze final, while the hosts - making their debut - flirted with making the knockout round after defeating Egypt, but would lose from 2-1 up to Iran to be eliminated at the pool stage.

Colombia were the only other debutants, with Qatar appearing again after their first appearance in 2022, and Chile and Libya making their first appearance since both made their debuts in 1982.
