Italy won back-to-back and third title overall, going 15-0 and only dropping eight sets on the way. They did need five sets in three of those wins in the regular season - against Germany, Japan and Turkey - but only dropped one in the finals tournament in Poland, in their 3-1 final victory over Brazil.
Brazil's only losses came against the Italians, and they improved on their 3-0 regular season loss in the final, but it was still their fourth loss in four finals (the first two to the United States, the last two to Italy). Hosts Poland finished third when they beat Japan 3-1.
After many years of struggles, Korea became the first team to be relegated when all teams were eligible, although they did at least record one win this season - 3-2 against Canada. But although Thailand also won only one match, they lost one fewer set than the Koreans to survive.
