The Germans though collapsed from there, finishing bottom in the combined table to be relegated, as they had four straight losses, ended when already relegated, by a 76-7 loss to the Netherlands.
 
Switzerland meanwhile passed both by, defeating them both on the way to finishing sixth, and running Belgium close for a time in the fifth place playoff - a country who'd come within one score of making the 2027 World Cup only months before.
