Following a request by a Precision Volleyball information collector, Precision Volleyball comes with separate set versions where no colour remains (black and white text only) and all flags have been removed. The corresponding write-up for this non-colour version (NCV) follows:
This set contains all 12 men's and 12 women's teams who competed at the Games held in London in 2012, with each team receiving team cards and team lists for ratings, as well as player scoring cards (maximum of 13 players included).
As the hosts, this tournament saw the debut of Great Britain at the top level of international volleyball, and although the men lost all five matches 3-0, the women recorded a historic first victory by beating Algeria 3-2.
In the men's tournament, Bulgaria were the surprise package going 4-1 in the group stage, and then defeating Germany in straight sets in the quarter-final. However, Russia would end their run 3-1 in the semis.
Meanwhile Group B winners and defending champions the United States, were shocked 3-0 by Italy in their quarter-final, but Brazil would end their run too in straight sets in the semi-final.
Looking to regain their title from eight years previously after losing the final in 2008, Brazil would lead the gold medal match 2-0, but after losing a tight third set 29-27, Russia would climb all the way back, winning a fifth set 15-9, as they claimed their first gold as a independent nation - they last won gold as part of the Soviet Union in 1980.
Italy would claim the bronze, 3-1 against Bulgaria, to go one better than in Beijing.
In the women's tournament, Russia and the United States would make their way through their pool with five wins out of five, but only one got out of the quarter-finals, as Brazil would win an elongated fifth set - 21-19, to dismiss Russia.
The defending champions only snuck in to the quarter-finals after going 3-2, and two of the wins three sets to two against Turkey and China. But they would return to the gold medal match with a straight sets win over Japan, whilst the United States would set-up a rematch of the Beijing final, with a similar straight sets victory over Korea.
Like in the 2008 match, the opening two sets were split (albeit the opposite way around), but this time Brazil rattled off three straight sets to again defeat their Americas rival 3-1, as they claimed their second gold and denied the Americans their first. Japan capped off their best Olympics since 1984 with the bronze, defeating their east Asian rivals Korea 3-0.
